From RIP,to print.
Every printer already has a RIP — the CUPS filter chain plus the device firmware. That layer works. What is missing, on every shop floor including ours, is the layer around it: preflight before media is burned, routing to the right queue on the right node out of many, transport that gets a file to another state intact, and a receipt that proves what printed and what it cost.
